Why SSDs are different
SSDs have no moving parts, so recovery usually means repairing the firmware or electronics rather than the mechanics. Many SSDs also encrypt data, which is why the drive itself has to be made to work again.
Soldered storage
On some laptops and on Apple silicon Macs, the SSD is soldered to the motherboard. Recovery then means repairing the board.
