A short history of Chelsea
The Royal Hospital Chelsea was founded by Charles II in 1682 as a home for retired soldiers, the Chelsea Pensioners. The RHS Chelsea Flower Show has been held in its grounds since 1913, and the King’s Road became famous as a centre of 1960s fashion.
